Days are getting longer, nights are less cold. Night skies at this time of year are spectacular. A recent conversation reminded me of past winter camping trips and, in particular, a trip that I did with a friend a few years ago.

After the Elbow parade, after Gallery 148, after the best milkshake in the world, we found ourselves in Riverhurst. We decided to take a walk downtown, explore another “Railway and Main” in Saskatchewan. We found a blue piano.

Best milkshake in the world

When I was growing up, the best milkshakes in the world were at the Dairy Bar. It was in the middle of nowhere, but the milkshakes were worth the effort. The Dairy Bar is long gone. But this summer we found the best milkshakes in the world.

A very prairie parade

We popped down to Elbow for Canada Day. The town really comes alive for the summer on that day each year. I thought we missed the parade last year, but it turns out they didn’t have one. This year was a very special occasion.
